Timer sound FAQ: muted tabs, background and device sleep

Browser settings and device state affect alerts. Test the exact browser and device you plan to use.

Quick answer

Turn on PIXELLAS sound, interact with the page, and check device volume and tab muting. Keep the page open and visible when an alert matters. Background suspension, locking or device sleep can prevent sound.

What should I check when the timer finishes silently?

Turn on the PIXELLAS sound control, click the page, check device volume and tab muting, then test a short countdown. The app’s sound control mutes both ticking and the completion chime. A closed or suspended page cannot guarantee playback.

Will an online timer work in a background tab?

PIXELLAS calculates remaining time from its saved end time when the page updates. Browsers may throttle or suspend background activity, so an accurate display after returning does not guarantee an alert at the deadline. Keep the page visible when sound matters.

Will the timer ring when my phone is locked or laptop sleeps?

Do not rely on it. Screen locking, device sleep and browser suspension can stop page activity or audio. For a wake-up alarm that must work while the device sleeps, use a device alarm designed for that purpose.

What happens if I refresh the timer page?

If browser storage is available, PIXELLAS restores the saved timer and recalculates its remaining time. Refreshing after the deadline does not replay the completion chime. Keep the page open through the finish if you need the sound.
